Anyway in answer to your question I don’t think Nasty Fest happens anymore I think the one you performed at Nasty Fest 9 (I think) (which I saw you at) was the last one. There’s a new event called Live at Leeds which takes place at the start of May (pre COVID-19) in venues across L Favorite track: Destination (ft. Deradoorian).

Cadence Weapon is by far my most collaborative album and also the only one where I didn't make any of the beats. Typically my process is pretty solitary and I do as much of it myself as possible but I made a concerted effort to let more people into the process this time. The results are warmer and more energetic, you can feel the other people in the room.

It was fun to just focus more on the act of rapping than I ever had before. The lyrics are inspired by my experience of moving to Toronto but also reflect on my time back in Montreal. I was really inspired by Harry Nilsson and Randy Newman at the time and got really into writing songs from other character's perspectives. Somehow it's also probably my most autobiographical album. I sample my dad talking on his radio show about me being born at the beginning of it. I decided to make it self-titled because it felt like a new beginning for me, a rebirth.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
